Projects

Here's just a small sampling of the historical treasures we've helped preserve.

Barber Cemetery, Dresden, Washington County

This cemetery is being restored as a joint venture with the Vermont Old Cemetery Association as VOCA continues to restore cemeteries in the lower Lake Champlain basin. Due to neglect and decades old vandalism, no stones were standing when we first surveyed the site. In fact, a large portion of the monument was located down the hill quite near the waters edge. Our volunteers are proud to have discovered two previously unsurveyed headstones when we cleared the area of brush and probed the ground. Both of these stones belong to children who died in the 1840’s and represent the only tangible record of their life.

Perry Cemetery, Whitehall, Washington County

The Perry Cemetery is a site which includes the burial site of the family’s progenitor, Daniel Earle, a Revolutionary War veteran, located atop a quiet high knoll overlooking the Mettawee River. The area was surveyed last summer and is slated for a Summer 2022 restoration including landscaping, ground probing, and multiple headstone repairs, all to preserve this historically important site.
